The Prohibition of eating pig in the Bible
Both the Bible and the Quran prohibit eating the flesh of pig. Muslims are aware of this prohibition and observe it strictly. However, most Christians are unaware of this prohibition in the Bible! The following verses make this issue clear:
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you." (Leviticus 11:7-8)
"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass." (Deuteronomy 14:8)
Then, in Isaiah 65:2-4, and 66:17, God issues a stern warning against those who eat swine.
Some Christians may be aware of this prohibition from God, but somehow they dismiss it saying that it was only in the Old Testament, implying that the law of the Torah is not applicable to Christians today! This only shows their lack of knowledge of the following:
1- Jesus lived all his life as a Jew and followed the law given in the Torah to the letter.
2- Jesus confessed that he was not sent to change any letter of the law of the Torah but to confirm it. The following are the words of Jesus:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them”(Mathew 5:17)
3- Jesus also confirmed that no one should change even one letter from the law of the Torah:
"So long as the Heaven and the Earth endure, not a letter, not a stroke, shall dissappear from the law ...... If any man therefore sets aside even the least of the Law's demands, and teaches others to do the same, he will have the lowest place in the Kingdom of Heaven." (Mathew 5:18-19).All the above confirms that the the true followers of Jesus lived by the same law which Jesus lived by and which he forbade any man to change, even one letter of it. We read the following words of Peter, who was the chief disciple, in which he states that he never let unclean food (the pig is defined as unclean in the passages above) enter his mouth:
“I have never eaten anything impure or unclean” (Acts of the Apostles 10:14).
We know that Paul went on later to corrupt much of the teachings of Jesus and changd them. By doing so, we have clear evidence that Paul was in breach of the rule given in Mathew 5:18-19.
