Will the righteous disbelievers go to Hell?
Question:
There are many Christians who do lots of excellent charity work and are generally very righteous people. Will these go to Hell according to the Quran?

Before replying to this question, it is necessary to state that only God knows the content of the hearts and who is a believer and who is not. We do not know the content of the hearts nor are we the ones who will judge.

All that can be said is what the Quran says about the fate of the disbelievers on Judgement Day, then the matter is in God’s hands alone.

We read a number of verses in the Quran which state that all the good works of the disbelievers are nullified on Judgement Day and count for nothing:

[2:217] ............ those among you who revert from their religion and die as disbelievers,
they have nullified their work in this world and the Hereafter and these are the companions of the fire, and therein they shall remain.

[7:147] Those who disbelieve in Our revelations and the meeting of the Hereafter,
their works are nullified. Verily, would they be requited for anything other than what they have been doing?

[
14:18] The example of those who disbelieved in their Lord is that their works are like ashes in a strong wind on a stormy day. They gain nothing from what they earn; such is the farthest straying.

[18:105] These are the ones who disbelieved in the revelations of their Lord and in meeting Him. Thus,
their works were nullified; on the Day of Resurrection, We deem no weight for them.
