The importance of trusting in God
By: A. Muhammad
Trusting in God is an option available to all people. Undoubtedly, it is the choice of those who believe in God's absolute authority over all things. Whether we choose to trust in God or choose not to, God will not interfere in the actions we do, but we are given complete freedom over all our actions.
Trusting in God reaps many benefits for the believers:
1- God grants those who trust in Him blessings in this life and in the Hereafter:
We will grant them well in this life, and the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.
They are the ones who are patient, and in their Lord they trust. 16:41-42
Whatever you have been given is but the enjoyment of the worldly life, while what is with God is better and longer lasting for those who believe, and in their Lord they trust. 42:36
Those who believe and do good deeds, We will settle them in mansions in Paradise beneath which rivers flow; therein they shall permanently remain. What a wonderful reward for the workers who are patient and in their Lord they trust. 29:58-59
2- The devil has no authority over those who trust in God:
He has no authority over those who believe and in their Lord they trust. 16:99
3- Trusting in God earns His love:
Once you make a decision, you shall trust in God. God loves the trusting ones. 3:159
4- Those who trust in God need none other:
And put your trust in God. God suffices as a Trustee. 33:3
5- God supports those who trust in Him:
If God supports you, none can defeat you. And if He forsakes you, who is the one who can support you after Him? In God the believers should trust. 3:160
6- Trusting in God grants the believers success in what they endeavour:
My success lies only with God. In Him I put my trust, and to Him I turn. 11:88
7- Trusting in God is an act of worship
You shall worship Him and put your trust in Him. 11:123
8- Trusting in God is the trait of genuine believers:
Put your trust in God if you are believers. 5:23
9- Trusting in God is the trait of true submitter to God:
In Him you shall trust, if you are indeed Submitters. 10:84

The above are the multiple benefits of trusting in God as presented in the Quran. Those who do not trust in God are deprived of such benefits. Trusting in God is the personal choice of every individual.
The genuine believers trust in God alone and they have a firm conviction that He alone has absolute authority over all that happens to them. For those who put all their trust and dependence on God alone, God gives a truly awesome guarantee in Sura 22:
Whoever thinks that God will not support him in this world and in the Hereafter, let him extend a 'sababan' (path) to the sky, then sever all else. Then let him see if his action removes what aggravates him. 22:15
The Arabic word 'sababan' has been used in the Quran to mean a path (see 18:85 and 40:36), or a connection (see 2:166). The glorious words in 22:15 provide a great test for all people with regards to how much they trust and depend on God. God invites anyone who doubts God's support in this life or the Hereafter, to turn to the sky (in prayer to God) establishing a path to God, then sever his dependence on anything and anyone else. He can then see if this action removes what has been aggravating him or not.
